The Cooks Beach community does not have a very large permanent population but the numbers increase significantly during the summer months.
The Thames Coromandel District Council became increasingly concerned about the potential of a major environmental problem arising.
Hopper Construction was engaged to assist with a solution. Step one was to upgrade the treatment plant.
A pump station was built at Cooks Beach to feed three processing ponds, set in a series.
From there, the treated effluent now gravitates in to a Hynds designed wet well (1800 x 6m) before being pumped out in to a plantation forest. This method of sewage treatment and dispersal is becoming more common for small to medium size towns.
The treated sewage is pumped out to a plantation forest through an intricate system of nylon coated ductile iron pipe, fittings, captivating valves and metering devices.
The pipework and valves were made and supplied by Hynds Tauranga branch.
Hynds also supplied the rising main pie network which reticulates through five different pine plantations and dispersed through numerous 20mm sprinklers.
The entire system installation was carried out by Hopper Construction under the supervision of Guy Jones.
Kevin Carlyle, Hynds Tauranga branch manager testifies that the job went like clockwork and was completed within schedule through good liaison between Jones, Hynds Tauranga and other principal suppliers
